Projects undertaken by the Trust -

Provision of Water Pumps –

Drinking or preparing food with unclean surface water can lead to some diarrheal diseases and cholera and typhoid. Diarrheal disease is responsible for millions of deaths a year worldwide (mostly in developing countries). It is mostly due to unsafe water supply, sanitation and hygiene and is mostly concentrated in children in developing countries.

Installing tube wells has helped reduce the incidence of water borne diseases as it sources groundwater which has been naturally filtered. However, some people still have difficulty getting access to these wells.

Zaytun Welfare Trust is committed to installing wells wherever we see a need and when we have sufficient funds.

32 water pumps were installed in Bangladesh which 192 families benefited from and 1152 beneficiaries. Each tube well costs £150/.

Marriage support -

Many families are unable to arrange marriages for their daughters due to financial struggle and absence of a wage earner in the family has made the lives of hundreds of families extremely difficult. This program provides the minimum necessary expenditure for the marriages of girls. The Grant-in-Aid meets the expense of bridal clothes, few ornaments for the bride and a simple marriage dinner. Already 18 young females have benefitted from this and it is planned to provide grants to 50 during the next year.

Qurbani (Cow & Sheep) -

There are so many poor people who cannot purchase meat a single day throughout the year. For many poor people, the luxury of eating meat is only possible once a year. Zaytun can undertake your ‘Qurbani’ to feed the poor at the most joyous of times – Eid. Zaytun has provided Qurbani for over 300 families. Qurbani of a cow costs £200 and a sheep just £50.

Housing Assistance -

A roof over one’s head is the start of improving the lives of many families. Zaytun provided assistance to 25 families last year. Many more are in need of shelter. £200/- can help a family with housing.

Helping the Mosque -

The local Mosque is the hub of spiritual, social and economic activities of the community however; many people are unable to pray their daily prayers in mosques due to various reasons.

The prophet (PBUH) said whosoever builds a Masjid for the sake of Allah’s pleasure, Allah (SWT) will build a house for him/ her in Jannah (Bukhari and Muslim)

One of the best Sadaqa Jariya in one’s life is to participate in the building of a Masjid. You can make this Sadaqa Jariya   for your self, on behalf of your beloved parents or other family members.

Zaytun has helped many local community Mosques to date. £200/= can help improve a Mosque’s infrastructure.

Clothing -

Clothing has been provided to over 360 families. £100 can help a family for the whole year. Last year Zaytun Trust distributed clothes in 400 very poor families. Your £100 donation can help a family for a whole year.

Medical Assistance

Everyone deserves to have the right to basic medical care. Millions in Bangladesh, Pakistan and India are forced to go without healthcare completely. Public hospitals are too few and doctor’s fees too high for these poor people to afford.

Despite the presence of thousands of private clinics, many poor people are unable to go to these because they are poverty stricken and cannot afford to do so.

The inability to pay means people needlessly suffer easily curable illnesses. Many often sell what little they possess to receive treatment, leaving them poorer than they were. The result is an increase in poverty.

Zaytun Welfare Trust is working to raise awareness of preventative measures, arranging free consultation with doctors and dispensing basic drugs.

Illness of a family member In poor communities can cause suffering to the whole family. Zaytun tries to help those who are ill and their families. Treatment can cost anything from £50 /= upwards.

Self-help Economic Development Assistance -

The purpose of this programme is to bring about a spirit of self-reliance among the beneficiaries and to create a sense of dignity and honour in them.

Providing families with a means to earn an income and help themselves is the best way to bring them out of poverty. Under the assistance programme the following are undertaken -

Poultries:

Zaytun has helped families purchase chickens to start poultries. £50 can buy 20 chickens. A family of six can easily survive from the income of a poultry.

Rickshaws:
For the poor, earning a living is always difficult. In the villages of Bangladesh many young men coming from poor homes are also uneducated. They cannot find jobs in their own village that will give them at least a minimum means of living to provide for their families, some are lucky enough to go to the cities where they can rent a rickshaw to find some income. They work all day and are able to make 300-400 Takas which is just about £3.

But after paying the daily rental for the rickshaw what is left is still not sufficient to run a family. Owning a rickshaw is beyond the reach of many poor families as one rickshaw costs 15,000 Taka, equivalent to £150,00. Zaytun Welfare Trust has a plan to help such people if you could assist us.

With a donation of £150/- one person could be provided with a rickshaw which will benefit him in many ways. He will have his own rickshaw which will relieve him from the burden of paying a daily rental and earn a substantial regular income to feed his family. He can help provide transport to his own family without spending on transport fares. As the villagers are compelled to travel a long way to do shopping, the own rickshaw will make these tasks.

Interest Free Loans to set-up business

Zaytun has provided interest-free loans to families to start small businesses. £500 upwards can   help a family start to start a business.

Education (General & Islamic Classrooms) -

Education will not only uplift the standard of the community but also will help to alleviate from immediate poverty. Most families cannot afford to meet the cost of their childrens’ education. Even primary education for children is out of reach. Zaytun has provided financial assistance to a number of educational centres. It costs only £160 to construct one classroom.

While the start of school term is met with mixed emotions by many young people, for millions of children in Bangladesh the chance to go to school would be a dream could true.

Thousands of rural villages do not have a school within walking distance; and often when they are available, they lack basic resources that make attendance for children viable.

Zaytun Welfare Trust believed education is the long-term solution for eradicating poverty in Bangladesh/Pakistan and India. This is why we are supporting poor families send their children to school by paying fees and providing materials such as books and stationary. We are also building new schools, offering scholarships for further education and helping pay salaries for teachers in schools.

For many families the costs and the fact that attending school prevents their children from working is more of a financial burden than they can bear.

With as little as 50 pence a day you can help a child from a poor family go to school and enable them to break free of the vicious cycle of poverty.

Eid-Gift-Aid -

This programme is to make the recipient family feel that they are equal participants in religious festive occasions and are not segregated from the rest of the people. Affected families are provided with financial assistance to cater to their needs during the month of Ramadan and distribution of meat to them during Eid-ul-Adha. Zaytun had given Eid Gift’s to families who have never known what a gift is. £15 can help find a gift to a family at Eid.

Ifthari & Provision of Food -

Assistance has been provided to 12 centres to conduct Ifthari programmes. Each programme costs

£50. Food items are provided to over 3000/- families. £150 for a family for a year will help to meet this need.

Sponsor a centre for Ifthari or sponsor the provision of food to a family from your Zakat, Sadaqa or Fitrana.

 Free Eye Operations –

The main cause of blindness in Bangladesh is cataracts, which is responsible for 60% of the cases. It can strike both the young and old. Even though cataracts can be easily cured by a simple operation, most of the Bangladeshi population has no access to cataract treatment services. If no urgent action is taken help people cataracts, countless people will be destined to remain blind for life.

Since May 2000, we have been providing free eye treatment for poor and needy in Bangladesh, and are planning to do these in other part of the world too. Some of them needed surgery, while others needed glasses or medicines. All this is provided to them free of charge including transport to the hospital and the follow up care expenses. Being able to see properly again brought about many smiles and some tears of happiness.

Already, many poor people have been for an eye examination and have received free treatment. There are still also many on our waiting list awaiting eye surgery. We want to help them with treatment and we invite you to save a sight if you are able. Each cataract removal operation costs £30, more complex eye operations cost more. We don’t receive any outside funding – we are completely reliant upon your donations for our projects. Please help by donating anything you can.

Prophet Muhammad (saw) said

“He who alleviates the sufferings of a brother out of the sufferings of this world

Allah will alleviate his sufferings from the sufferings of the day of resurrection”
